For our Class 7 Basic - In Person Theory, no — you can start lessons and take your Class 7 knowledge test during the program. However, you will need to pass the knowledge test before completing your in-car hours. For the Class 5 More on Road - In Person Theory program, you do need a valid Class 7 licence before starting.

Just bring your current Alberta Class 7 learner's licence (if you already have it) and your glasses or contacts if you need them to drive. Your instructor will bring the vehicle. Don't worry about being perfect on the first lesson — that's what lessons are for.

It varies. Some students are ready after 10 in-car hours; others need more time. The Class 7 Basic - In Person Theory includes 10 hours, which is enough for many students. Your instructor will give you an honest assessment as you progress. We'd rather tell you to book more hours than have you fail a road test prematurely.

Yes, and a significant number of our students come to us specifically because they've had bad experiences elsewhere or have high driving anxiety. Our instructors are trained to work at your pace. We never rush, we never make you do anything you're not ready for, and we keep the atmosphere calm. It usually takes a few lessons for the anxiety to reduce noticeably.

Class 7 is the learner's licence — you pass a knowledge test to get it, and you must drive with a licensed Class 5 driver (or instructor) in the vehicle. You hold Class 7 for at least 12 months before you're eligible for a Class 5 road test. Class 5 is a full Alberta driver's licence — no restrictions. The More on Road - In Person Theory program is designed to help Class 7 holders build the hours and skill needed to pass their Class 5 road test.

The Class 7 Basic - In Person Theory includes 15 hours of classroom or online theory covering Alberta traffic rules, road signs and safe driving principles, plus 10 hours of one-on-one in-car instruction with a certified instructor. Free pickup is included. At completion, you receive a certificate recognized by Alberta Transportation and qualifying you for an insurance discount.

The More on Road - In Person Theory program includes 15 hours of classroom or online theory and 14 hours of in-car instruction. The extra in-car hours focus on highway driving, complex intersections, lane changes, adverse weather and the confidence needed for a full Class 5 road test. Free pickup is included.

Yes. Both the Class 7 and Class 5 courses offer online theory. You complete the material at your own pace, on your own schedule, from any device. This is particularly popular with students who work shifts or have family commitments. The online theory meets Alberta Transportation requirements just like in-class theory.

Free pickup is included with every lesson — no exceptions, no extra charge. Your instructor drives to your home, school or workplace and picks you up. You do not need your own vehicle. Edge Driving School provides the car for all in-car lessons.

Yes. You can request a specific instructor, including a female instructor, when you book. We can't always guarantee availability on your preferred date, but we do our best to accommodate requests. If a female instructor is important to you, mention it when you register and we'll confirm availability.

Our instructors speak English, Punjabi, Hindi and other languages. If you're more comfortable receiving instruction in a language other than English, let us know when you book and we'll match you with an instructor who speaks your language.

We ask for at least 24 hours' notice for any cancellation or reschedule. Cancellations made with less than 24 hours' notice may be subject to a cancellation fee. We understand that life happens — if something urgent comes up, call us as soon as you can and we'll do our best to work with you.

Yes. We offer lessons seven days a week, including Saturday and Sunday, and evening slots on weekdays. Availability varies by instructor and area, but in most cases we can find something that works with your schedule. Book early for the most choice of times.
